Governor of oil-rich Akwa Ibom state in south-south Nigeria, Godswill Akpabio has challenged the American government to take advantage of the enormous investment opportunities that abound in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Addressing the forty-fourth congressional black caucus annual legislative conference in Washington DC at the weekend, governor Akpabio said greater economic ties between the two countries would be mutually beneficial.<\/p>\n

The focus of the forty-fourth black caucus annual legislative is on how to deepen the relationship between the United States of America and the rest of Africa, and Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom state did not waste time in seizing the opportunity to inform the audience that his administration has done so much in Akwa Ibom state to ensure that investors are given the enabling environment to operate.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cWe have encouraged a lot of companies to come in to build what we call a deep sea port. We have the best location for a deep sea port in Nigeria, about 13-15 litres of water draught in Nigeria without dredging.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the theme: \u201cCreating a nexus for the world\u2019s energy capital \u2013 from the golf coast to the African coast\u201d governor Akpabio highlighted the numerous investment opportunities that abound in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we have done in Akwa Ibom outside the fact that we are deepening democracy with development is that we have also taken a legal framework. We have signed into law a bill that we call Infrastructure Development Agency. We train our children on how to own and sustain what we are doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other guest speakers at the conference including famous American civil rights campaigner, Reverend Jesse Jackson and the promoter of the event, American congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee where on the same page for a closer economic tie between the United States and Africa.<\/p>\n

Jesse Jackson, said, \u201cWe need a mutually beneficial relationship and a powerful relationship.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfrica is African Americans priority, I want to see young Africans along with Caucasians, Latinos and Asians in the energy industry drawing up new ideas and reaching new markets.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to ensure we have partnership with nations in Africa to have their own national carriers. Since we began to explore oil in Nigeria, a drop of Nigerian oil has not left Nigerian soil for any other country on a Nigerian ship.\u201d<\/p>\n

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee was quick to inform the gathering that governor Akpabio was invited to address the congressional black caucus on the strength of his outstanding record as governor of Akwa Ibom state.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
