{"id":21728,"date":"2019-03-10T21:45:38","date_gmt":"2019-03-10T21:45:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=21728"},"modified":"2019-03-10T21:45:38","modified_gmt":"2019-03-10T21:45:38","slug":"ethiopian-airlines-plane-crash-nigerian-prof-adesanmi-and-columnist-amongst-the-dead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=21728","title":{"rendered":"Ethiopian Airlines Plane Crash: Nigerian Prof. Adesanmi And Columnist Amongst The Dead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><code><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.newsroom247.com.ng --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/code><\/p>\n<p>Nigerian Prof.\u00a0 Pius Adesanmi and columnist is amongst the dead in the Ethiopian Airlines Plane which crashed in the early hours of Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>It had earlier been reported by a Nigerian media that an Ethiopian Airlines flight between Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, crashed, killing 149 passengers and eight crew members<\/p>\n<p>It has now emerged that Adesanmi, a native of Isanlu, in Yagba East Local Government area of Kogi State, was among the passengers.<\/p>\n<p>Reports have it that family members of the deceased Canadian official has confirmed the sad development to newsmen.<\/p>\n<p>Carleton University has confirmed the death of Pius Adesanmi, describing him as a scholar and teacher of the highest calibre.<\/p>\n<p>The university, via a statement on Sunday evening, said Adesanmi was one of the 18 Canadians, who died on the Ethiopian Airways flight from Addis Ababa Ethiopia to Nairobi Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>Up until his death, Adesanmi was the Director at The Institute of African Studies (IAS) at Carleton University.<\/p>\n<p><code><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=18180&amp;ad_type=81&amp;rl=1800\" width=\"336\" height=\"280\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/code><\/p>\n<p>FULL STATEMENT BELOW<br \/>\nThe Carleton community is shocked and devastated to learn of the death of Prof. Pius Adesanmi, who was among the 18 Canadians killed in today\u2019s crash of an Ethiopian Airlines jet at the Addis Ababa airport.<\/p>\n<p>Global Affairs Canada has confirmed that Adesanmi is among the victims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPius was a towering figure in African and post-colonial scholarship and his sudden loss is a tragedy,\u201d said Benoit-Antoine Bacon, president and vice-chancellor. \u201cOur thoughts and prayers are with his family and all those who knew and loved him, and with everyone who suffered loss in the tragic crash in Ethiopia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe contributions of Pius Adesnami to Carleton are immeasurable,\u201d said Pauline Rankin, dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. \u201cHe worked tirelessly to build the Institute of African Studies, to share his boundless passion for African literature and to connect with and support students.
