SAGAY&#8217;S STATEMENT THAT NYSC IS IRRELEVANT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.newsroom247.com.ng --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p class=\"first\">The statement by Professor Itse Sagay, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), that he doesn&#8217;t\u00a0 \u201cbloody care\u201d if Kemi Adeosun, Minister of Finance, underwent the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or not is generating row with some critics describing him a charlatan or he maybe senile due to old age.<\/p>\n<p>Following an investigation by Premium Times exposing how Adeosun skipped the NYSC programme and forged an exemption certificate, there have been calls, which have been ignored, for President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Minister.<\/p>\n<p>However, in quotes\u00a0<strong>reported by TheNation<\/strong>, Sagay said he would never remove her were he the President.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know why the government has not reacted. But, let me tell you my reaction. This woman is a brilliant and extremely valuable member of this government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of the good things happening now \u2013 the welfare that Nigerians are enjoying and are going to enjoy, because it takes time, and the way our economy is booming, how we got out of recession \u2013 are due to her expertise, her commitment, her sacrifice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is nothing in this world that will make me remove such a woman from the government. The PDP can weep from now until there is no tear in their body; she is going to be there. We cannot afford to lose that woman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked if it was not an offence to skip NYSC, Sagay said: \u201cWho cares about youth service? I don\u2019t bloody care whether she did youth service or not. It\u2019s irrelevant as far as I am concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the allegation that she forged an exemption certificate, he said: \u201cI don\u2019t believe it. I don\u2019t see anything serious about not doing youth service. I don\u2019t see anything serious about it. That\u2019s my own bias, not government\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m telling you now. If you ask me \u2013 If I were President Buhari, I would never, ever touch that woman because she\u2019s damn good.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe enemies of this government want to reduce his capacity to provide good governance by engaging in social media attacks and trying to get rid of her. It will not work.\u201d<\/p>\n<header class=\"comment__header\"><span class=\"post-byline\"><span class=\"author publisher-anchor-color\">Meanwhile one EngrJude<\/span>\u00a0 reacting to the commmet said: &#8220;<\/span>I&#8217;ve had a look at your comment and the &#8220;unlawyerly&#8221; rantings of Professor Sagay. At the moment he appears to be playing the role of a charlatan that is increasingly integrity challenged. Mention is made in your comment about reading a book authored by Sagay on Evidence. I do think though that he was well known for his work on Constitutional law but a critical and sound appraisal of his works would reveal no great scholarly enterprise. At his age, Sagay should really relocate to his village in Delta State rather than disgrace himself professionally and distroy the good legacy (or what is left of it) that he has built up over the years through very hard toil. I recall when he was evicted from UNIBEN staff quarters by the infamous Vice Chancellor Grace Alele -Williams because he fought for the rights of his peers and was a vociferous defender of the law and all things lawful. This is what years of corruption and misrule has done to this man and the APC with Tinubu at the head, has brought him yet lower. I never thought the day would come when Professor Sagay and the likes of Akpabio, Certificate forging Adeosun and other notoriously corrupt politicians would be in the same party and ride in the same canoe on the ocean of corruption and take delight in swimming in the tide, granting comfort and protection from the arms of justice for questionable characters.
