Harriman of High Court 4 in suit number \/ W\/ 739\/ FHR\/2017 has ordered the Nigeria Police Force to pay as compensation the sum of N10 million (ten million naira) to a commercial car driver, Matthew Oboroh who the court also awarded one hundred thousand naira cost from the police for infringing on his fundamental human right by taking possession of his car without compensation.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Barrister Blessing Ahwinahwi of Chief Andi Kayoma Osawota Chambers, Warri, who was the counsel to Matthew Oboroh in the suit, \u00a0told our correspondent in Warri last weekend that her client (Mr Oboroh) commercial car was stolen along Jakpa Road, Effurun in 2015 when he went to worship at a popular new generation church (now relocated to Effurun\/Sapele Road) Effurun.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">According to the counsel, Mr Oboroh lodged a complaint about his stolen car at the Ekpan Police Station with the hope of the Police searching for his stolen car but this \u00a0was not to be as the \u00a0car was rather \u00a0seen by its owner (Mr Oboroh) while he was traveling to Sapele at the ever busy Effurun Roundabout.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He stated that the police from Ekpan Police Station were using the car for security patrol and that the inscription &#8216;Operation Ekpan Area&#8217; was boldly written on both sides of the body of the car.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<p><code><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=16698&amp;ad_type=62&amp;rl=180\" width=\"728\" height=\"90\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/code><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Mr Oboroh, the counsel said, was able to recognize the stolen car which now had new police car registration numbers but still had the same colour at as when it was stolen.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">With this \u00a0shock discovery, Mr Oboroh \u00a0was said to have politely approached the policemen from Ekpan Police Station (who were using the ill gotten car \u00a0in search of criminals) and humbly told them that the car which they were driving was his car and that the car was stolen in 2015.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He was accordingly asked to go to the Ekpan Police Station where he logged a complaint about his stolen and on getting to the said police station, Mr Oboroh was told that the stolen car was actually recovered by the police in 2016 and that he could only repossess his car on the payment of N115, 000.00 (one hundred and fifteen thousand naira).<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He was said to have been told also that the said the sum of money that was being demanded for was the cost of the expenses incur by the police in maintaining his recovered car.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Seeing that the demand by the police was an infringement on his fundamental human right, the commercial car driver then decided to seek the services of a lawyer, with the hope of having justice in the law court.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">It was gathered that when amicably resolution of the matter Chief Osawota failed between both parties, the case was taken to court where it was tried and the police was found guilty of infringing on the fundamental human right of the commercial car driver, Matthew Oboroh, by forcefully confiscating his car without paying compensation to him.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">By Ambrose Ologide<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/delta-is-working-new-200618-banner-ad-online-234-x-60px-f-4.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-19511\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/delta-is-working-new-200618-banner-ad-online-234-x-60px-f-4.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"3033\" height=\"376\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.newsroom247.com.ng --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\" data-full-width-responsive=\"true\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A \u00a0High Court sitting in Warri presided of by Justice Mrs R.D.
