But when it comes to drinks, especially alcoholic beverages, we do little to make the best decisions for our health. Which is a HUGE mistake. All that hard work for your body can be ruined in a weekend out. While foods and non-alcoholic beverages are required to list their ingredients and are monitored by the FDA, beer is not. The alcohol industry has lobbied for years to avoid labeling its ingredients. Some to protect its recipes, but most \u2013 to hide harmful ingredients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are the 8 beers that are commonly found in bars in The United States that you should stop drinking immediately.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>1. Newcastle Brown Ale<\/h2>\n<p>The Newcastle beer has been found to contain\u00a0caramel coloring. Class 3 and 4 caramel coloring is made from ammonia, which is classified as a carcinogen. While alcohol is a\u00a0carcinogen itself, drinking it in moderation may\u00a0decrease\u00a0your chances of developing cancer. However, more added carcinogens will have the opposite effect. \u201cThe one and only\u201d beer with extra cancer causing qualities.<\/p>\n<p><em>Update: Good news! After much consumer pressure by all of you who read and shared this, Heineken USA has reached out to us to let us know that caramel coloring is gone\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI\u2019m writing you to inform that Newcastle Brown Ale has proactively removed all caramel coloring from its beer. Newcastle now receives its flavor from natural roasted malts.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>2. Budweiser<\/h2>\n<p>One of the most popular beers, or most advertised is Budweiser. Budweiser contains\u00a0genetically modified (GMO) corn. In 2007, Greenpeace discovered experimental\u00a0GMO rice\u00a0in\u00a0Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser) beer.<\/p>\n<h2>3.\u00a0Corona Extra<\/h2>\n<p>I used to love Corona\u2019s commercials. They were so peaceful and relaxing. That is until I found out that the beer contains GMO Corn Syrup and\u00a0Propylene Glycol. Propylene Glycol is controversial, and is said to be potentially harmful to your health.<\/p>\n<h2>4.\u00a0Miller Lite<\/h2>\n<p>This is another very popular beer in America that contains GMOs. Miller Lite contains\u00a0GMO corn\u00a0and\u00a0corn syrup. It\u2019s \u201cGMO time\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2>5. Michelob Ultra<\/h2>\n<p>Less popular but still readily available Michelob beer, should be eliminated from your choices. This beer has been found to contain a\u00a0genetically modified sweetener\u00a0(GMO dextrose).<\/p>\n<h2>6. Guinness<\/h2>\n<p>Guinness is often praised for it\u2019s smoothness. \u00a0However, several investigations proved that Guinness ingredients are quite disturbing. The beer contains isinglass, an ingredient which comes from\u00a0fish bladder\u00a0and high fructose corn syrup. High fructose corn syrup has been long banned from many\u00a0stores\u00a0and drinks.<\/p>\n<p><em>Update: Since the time of this writing consumer pressure has affected Guinness too! The beer company recently stated that they will no longer use high fructose corn syrup in any of their beers.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>7.\u00a0Coors Light<\/h2>\n<p>Coors light is a drink that is very popular at bars and among college students. \u00a0Mostly because it\u2019s cheap. The beer contains\u00a0GMO corn syrup.<\/p>\n<h2>8. Pabst Blue Ribbon<\/h2>\n<p>Pabst Blue Ribbon contains\u00a0GMO corn\u00a0and\u00a0GMO corn syrup.<\/p>\n<h2>Healthy Beer Alternatives<\/h2>\n<p>So when it comes to beer you have to be very careful. Your best option is to find a microbrewery that you can trust. As with everything, try to avoid cheap, low-quality products. It\u2019s a good indication that cheap ingredients from government subsidized GMO crops have been used to make the beer. Bars may offer Coors Light, Miller Lite or Budweiser specials, but they are cheap for a reason. The rest of the world is banning GMOs everywhere, while USA is lagging years behind, and only several states offer GMO labeling laws. Try to stay away from any American beers. Choose organic beer. Beers that contain 100% organic labels, have to have ingredients that are all 100% organic.
