OF &#8220;TARGETED KILLINGS&#8221;, ARSON, LOOTING AGAINST ANGLOPHONES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>The United States has accused the Cameroonian government of \u201ctargeted killings\u201d, arson and looting in its fight against an Anglophone separatist movement.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement following a meeting with President Paul Biya on Thursday, the U.S. ambassador to Cameroon called for dialogue to end an 18-month-old conflict.<\/p>\n<p>English-speaking rebels have killed over 20 gendarmes and tens of thousands of people, mostly English-speakers, have fled to Nigeria to escape army reprisals.<\/p>\n<p>The unrest has destabilized the mostly French-speaking Central African oil producer, months before an election in which Biya will seek to extend his 35-year-old rule.<\/p>\n<p><code><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=-1&amp;pl=16206&amp;ad_type=59&amp;rl=180\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<\/code><\/p>\n<p>Reuters reported in February that soldiers had burned down houses with people inside and shot unarmed residents as part of a military offensive to root out the separatists in the Northwest and Southwest regions.The Cameroon army and government has denied mistreatment of its English-speaking minority.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe month of April has proven the bloodiest so things are not getting better,\u201d said U.S. ambassador Peter Henry Barlerin.<\/p>\n<p>He said Cameroon authorities had authorized \u201ctargeted killings, detentions without access to legal support &#8230; and burning and looting of villages\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The separatists have committed \u201cmurders of gendarmes, kidnapping of government officials, and burning of schools\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Leading separatists have claimed responsibility for such attacks.<\/p>\n<p>What started as peaceful protests in late 2016 calling for greater representation for Cameroon\u2019s English-speaking regions has morphed into a full blown secessionist insurgency, partly in response to the government\u2019s clampdown on demonstrations.<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses and rights groups have said the army has used helicopter gunships to fire on protesters, allegations the government denies<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The United States has accused the Cameroonian government of \u201ctargeted killings\u201d, arson and looting in its fight against an Anglophone separatist movement.
