The Ijaw People’s Development initiative, IPDI<\/span> has raised alarm over the recent increase in the school fees of the Niger Delta University(NDU) describing it as outrageous, a desperate attempts to kill the university and increase patronage for his private Africa university in the state<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Below is a statement signed by Comrade Ozobo Austin, National president Ijaw People’s Development initiative, IPDI and <\/span>Comrade Daniel Ezekiel, spokesman. <\/span><\/div>\n

“We are perturbed on the alarming situation of Niger Delta university, NDU. We are aware that Seriake Dickson wants NDU dead, to increase patronage for his private Africa university in the state. The recent outrageous increase of school fees in NDU is a desperate attempts to kill the university. Is it not evil to kill the legacy of your brother late Diepreye Alamieyesegha ,for the sake of your personal interest? A man that was Hunted to death by Nigerian state for standing by you in the day of trouble. What Dickson is doing does not represents the interest of common Bayelsans, the idea is to increase NDU fees to stop parents from sending their students to NDU and at the same time lower the fees of AFRICA VARSITY to gain more patronage. What a shameful act.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

It may interest you to know that no reasonable government will condescend so low to cause chaos in NDU to elevate it myopic interest. The recent close down of academic activities in NDU is so childish, barbaric, absurd, null and void. We have heard of protesting students been beating up by suspected thugs of the government. This is highest level of callousness ?. It is pertinent to note that shutdown of academic activities in NDU is not a known practice to address civil protest against an injustice of arbitrary increase of student’s school fees in NDU. This is an act of frivolity. We hereby call on governor Seriake Dickson to put a stop to all these evil acts, because if it continues, Bayesians will be left with no option than to stone and shame him out of office. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

It is imperative to note that Bayesians are disappointed in Dickson actions and through his own totalitarian state way of governance. He doesn’t fit to lead BAYELSA on the capacity of a governor. This is a desperation taken too far. He should not throw caution to the wind by trying to play God because should he do that, harsh judgement shall fall on him. What does he stand to benefit for crumbling academic activities in NDU? This is a grave disservice to Bayesians and Ijaws from all walks of life who rallied round for him to win his second term election bid. Is this the best way to pay them back ?. NDU was there before the establishment of federal university, Otuoke, Jonathan who brought Federal varsity to Otuoke, never dream of reducing patronage or status of NDU, for federal university to spring up in the state. I believe all the two varsities are doing well side by side. DICKSON concepts is not acceptable. He is possing a great threat to the existence of NDU.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
