Massive, widespread, and pervasive corruption affected all levels of government and the security services,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe constitution provides immunity from civil and criminal prosecution for the president, vice president, governors, and deputy governors while in office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report added that while prosecuting corruption charges, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) failed to follow due process.<\/p>\n<p>It cited the case of Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser, who has been in custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since 2015, despite court orders demanding his release.<\/p>\n<p>It listed the most significant human rights issues during the year to include: \u201cExtrajudicial and arbitrary killings; disappearances and arbitrary detentions; torture, particularly in detention facilities, including sexual exploitation and abuse; use of children by some security elements, looting, and destruction of property; civilian detentions in military facilities, often based on flimsy evidence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also included are \u201cdenial of fair public trial; executive influence on the judiciary; infringement on citizens\u2019 privacy rights; restrictions on freedoms of speech, press, assembly, and movement; official corruption; lack of accountability in cases involving violence against women and children; trafficking in persons; and early and forced marriages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><code><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=16033&amp;ad_type=59&amp;rl=180\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n<\/code><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018JUDICIARY FACING INTIMIDATION FROM EXECTUIVE\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The US also frowned at the judicial system in the country which it said was compromised during the period.<\/p>\n<p>It said while there were avoidable delays in court processes, the executive and legislative arms of government continued to interfere with the judiciary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough the constitution and law provide for an independent judiciary, the judicial branch remained susceptible to pressure from the executive and legislative branches. Political leaders influenced the judiciary, particularly at the state and local levels,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnderstaffing, underfunding, inefficiency, and corruption prevented the judiciary from functioning adequately. Judges frequently failed to appear for trials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition, the salaries of court officials were low, and they often lacked proper equipment and training.
