ultimatum to the principal officers of the Senate and other parties to respond to a suit challenging its investigation of the senator representing the Delta central senatorial district, Ovie Omo-Agege.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"2d1gs\" data-offset-key=\"7orn6-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"7orn6-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"7orn6-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"2d1gs\" data-offset-key=\"7j1p-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"7j1p-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"7j1p-0-0\">Recall that Omo-Agege was investigated and subsequently suspended for accusing his colleagues of working against President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"2d1gs\" data-offset-key=\"6d3ot-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"6d3ot-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"6d3ot-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"2d1gs\" data-offset-key=\"759b7-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"759b7-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"759b7-0-0\">The court presided by Nnamdi Dimbga made the ruling after declaring that the time for the defence, including Senate President Bukola Saraki, to file their response to the motion brought by Omo-Agege had been abridged.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"2d1gs\" data-offset-key=\"5bbh3-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"5bbh3-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"5bbh3-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"2d1gs\" data-offset-key=\"40fli-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"40fli-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"40fli-0-0\">Omo-Agege had approached the court to stop the Nigerian Senate from implementing the report of the Senate\u2019s\u2019s ethics and privileges committee which investigated comments made by him in February.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"2d1gs\" data-offset-key=\"8uu4o-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8uu4o-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"8uu4o-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"2d1gs\" data-offset-key=\"86oq1-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"86oq1-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"86oq1-0-0\">Omo-Agege had alleged during a sitting in February that the proposed electoral amendment by the National Assembly was a plot against President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"2d1gs\" data-offset-key=\"8shp1-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8shp1-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"8shp1-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"2d1gs\" data-offset-key=\"3rug6-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"3rug6-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"3rug6-0-0\">After making the statement, Omo-Agege later apologised to his colleagues.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"2d1gs\" data-offset-key=\"77gtn-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"77gtn-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"77gtn-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"2d1gs\" data-offset-key=\"fltr0-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"fltr0-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"fltr0-0-0\">Following an observation by Kogi State senator, Dino Melaye, the matter was handed over to the Senate\u2019s\u2019s committee on ethics and privileges for investigation<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=15958&amp;ad_type=59&amp;rl=180\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div data-contents=\"true\">\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"dl5p7\" data-offset-key=\"6na0c-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"6na0c-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"6na0c-0-0\">But after the committee began its investigation, Mr Omo-Agege approached the court, seeking an order preventing the Senate from taking any action from the findings made by the committee.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"dl5p7\" data-offset-key=\"6l16h-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"6l16h-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"6l16h-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"dl5p7\" data-offset-key=\"2aump-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"2aump-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"2aump-0-0\">Omo-Agege also asked the committee to suspend its investigations pending the determination of the matter in court.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"dl5p7\" data-offset-key=\"4vei7-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"4vei7-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"4vei7-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"dl5p7\" data-offset-key=\"fkuab-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"fkuab-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"fkuab-0-0\">The committee has, however, submitted its findings to the Senate, which resulted in the suspension of Omo-Agege on Thursday for 90 days.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"dl5p7\" data-offset-key=\"25edl-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"25edl-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"25edl-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"dl5p7\" data-offset-key=\"f4si8-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"f4si8-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"f4si8-0-0\">During its previous hearing, the court refused an ex-parte motion filed by Omo-Agege and asked the respondents in the suit to appear before it on Friday for hearing on the motion.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"dl5p7\" data-offset-key=\"2pb8q-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"2pb8q-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"2pb8q-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"dl5p7\" data-offset-key=\"6s0vg-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"6s0vg-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"6s0vg-0-0\">Dimgba also said the court would ensure accelerated hearing on the matter.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"dl5p7\" data-offset-key=\"2fbmn-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"2fbmn-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"2fbmn-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"dl5p7\" data-offset-key=\"4ikaj-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"4ikaj-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"4ikaj-0-0\">The respondents were all absent during Friday\u2019s hearing.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-offset-key=\"pe84-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"pe84-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"dl5p7\" data-offset-key=\"fa52r-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"fa52r-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"fa52r-0-0\">Dimbga, therefore, ruled that considering his earlier decision to ensure accelerated hearing into the application, the time for the respondents to file their replies was over.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"dl5p7\" data-offset-key=\"1r68s-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"1r68s-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"1r68s-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"dl5p7\" data-offset-key=\"9k2pf-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"9k2pf-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"9k2pf-0-0\">He ordered the respondents to file their responses, within seven days from Friday, April, 13.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"dl5p7\" data-offset-key=\"3bhie-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"3bhie-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"3bhie-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-editor=\"dl5p7\" data-offset-key=\"7jf19-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"7jf19-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"7jf19-0-0\">According to the order, the date for the submission of respondents\u2019 briefs elapses April 20.
