Former Super Eagles coach Christian Chukwu believes Nigeria could have done better against Congo and South Africa in their 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers had the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation been in place.<\/p>\n

The NFF was embroiled in a leadership tussle ahead of the qualifiers. Nigeria lost to Congo in Calabar on September 6 and drew goalless with South Africa in Cape Town four days later in their Morocco 2015 Africa Cup of nations qualifiers.<\/p>\n

Chukwu told our correspondent on the telephone on Sunday that had the committee been in place, it would have contributed in the selection of players and preparation of the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is only when a new NFF board is in place that the technical committee can be constituted. If it had been on the ground, it would have made inputs in the selection of players and the preparation for the matches. We\u2019re very concerned with the team\u2019s unimpressive performance,\u201d Chukwu said.<\/p>\n

However, the 1980 Nations Cup winner was optimistic the Eagles would bounce back from their disappointment to beat Sudan in their next game. Nigeria will travel to Khartoum to clash against the Sudanese on October 11 and host the North Africans in Calabar four days later.<\/p>\n

The former Eagles captain said, \u201cSudan lost (3-0) to South Africa at home and also lost (2-0) to Congo on away soil (Point Noire). It will be terrible if we lose to them. Sudan have appeared to be the whipping team but that doesn\u2019t mean they are the weakest side in the group; we should not take them for granted.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy advice is that the players should arrive on time for the game. The early arrival will allow Keshi to assess the players if they have time for at least seven training sessions.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe we have a team already following our performance at the last Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa and the World Cup in Brazil. So, it shouldn\u2019t be a problem to decide which of the players to settle for.\u201d<\/p>\n

Congo are topping the group on six points followed by South Africa on four points. Nigeria are third on one point, while Sudan have not points.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
