{"id":18178,"date":"2018-04-08T19:33:46","date_gmt":"2018-04-08T19:33:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=18178"},"modified":"2018-04-08T19:33:46","modified_gmt":"2018-04-08T19:33:46","slug":"warri-refinery-pollution-ravages-ekpan-effurun-80-persons-on-admission-for-respiratory-disorder-community-leader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=18178","title":{"rendered":"WARRI REFINERY POLLUTION RAVAGES EKPAN, EFFURUN &#8211; 80 PERSONS ON ADMISSION FOR RESPIRATORY DISORDER &#8211; COMMUNITY LEADER"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><code><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/code><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Indigenes of Ekpan and Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta state, have vowed to cripple the activities of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) and Nigerian Gas Company (NGC), both subsidiaries of Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) over health hazards caused by air pollution.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">They have consequently demanded that the management of both companies summons an emergency meeting with the community leadership to address issues that bothers on how to find lasting solutions to the health challenges posed to the lives of their people in the community as a result their operations.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The President General (PG) of Uvwie Kingdom, Chief Austin Ukuwrere, in a statement in Warri, disclosed that the records presently at the disposal of the community executive revealed that over eighty (80) persons (both indigenes and non indigenes) of the council area are being admitted in various hospitals over respiratory disorder.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=15922&amp;ad_type=59&amp;rl=180\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">He explained that medical examinations conducted on these people, especially the ones admitted at the Ekpan General hospital, revealed it was as a result of the air pollution from the gas flare of WRPC and NGC plants which constantly pollute the air and emit chemical substances take in by residents of these areas.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">According to him, &#8220;We have written several letters seeking audience with the management of these companies but they have turned deaf ears to our appeal to dialogue with us with a view of finding solutions to this health hazards caused by their operations in our community&#8221;.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8216;&#8221;We can not continue to fold our hands and watch our people being subjected to series of health challenges due to the operations of these companies and the management seems not bothered.
