{"id":1587,"date":"2014-09-08T08:28:33","date_gmt":"2014-09-08T08:28:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=1587"},"modified":"2014-09-08T08:28:33","modified_gmt":"2014-09-08T08:28:33","slug":"nans-condemns-n65-atm-charge-seeks-reversal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=1587","title":{"rendered":"NANS condemns N65 ATM charge, seeks reversal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/ATM-machine.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1588\" alt=\"ATM-machine\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/ATM-machine-270x300.jpg\" width=\"270\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/ATM-machine-270x300.jpg 270w, http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/ATM-machine.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 270px) 100vw, 270px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The National Association of Nigerian Students has condemned the re-introduction of the Automatic Teller Machine charge by the Central Bank of Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The CBN had announced a charge of N65 to be paid by bank customers when they use the ATMs of third party banks.<\/p>\n<p>A charge of N100 for ATM withdrawals was scrapped by the former CBN Governor, Lamido Sanusi, to reduce human traffic in banking halls.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of NANS, South-West, Jeremiah Olatinwo, the association called the reintroduction of the charge \u201csatanic extortion\u201d, saying it negated the promise to empower Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>The statement read in part, \u201cThe bourgeois Nigerian government has opened another episode of unlawful extortion of the proletariat, an act which is motivated by selfish and personal gains.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe National Association of Nigerian Students wishes to express its displeasure with the recent unfriendly policies of the apex financial institution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to unequivocally state our opposition to the baseless charge of N65 on interbank ATM withdrawals, which took effect on September 1 after two years\u2019 proscription\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The association demanded the reversal of the charge, adding that it would to mobilise students against the move if nothing was done.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe demand the immediate stoppage of the N65 charge for interbank ATM withdrawals.
