{"id":15253,"date":"2017-07-25T21:45:49","date_gmt":"2017-07-25T21:45:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=15253"},"modified":"2017-07-25T21:45:49","modified_gmt":"2017-07-25T21:45:49","slug":"niger-delta-crisis-may-escalate-as-militants-bomb-pipeline-clark-gives-fg-ultimatum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=15253","title":{"rendered":"NIGER DELTA CRISIS MAY ESCALATE AS MILITANTS BOMB PIPELINE; CLARK GIVES FG ULTIMATUM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Suspected militants on Monday vandalised the Trans-Niger pipeline in Ogoniland in the Niger Delta region, reducing the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation\u2019s crude oil production by 150,000 barrels per day.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Group Managing Director, NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, the country has not been able to sustain the recent gains recorded in crude oil production as a result of the rupturing of pipelines in the region.<\/p>\n<p>When asked if the corporation had been able to sustain the 2.2 million bpd crude production that it announced last week, Baru told journalists in Abuja, \u201cUnfortunately, we have not been able to sustain it because we have challenges.<\/p>\n<p><code><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/code><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I am talking to you, this morning (Monday), the Trans-Niger pipeline has been breached in Ogoniland, and that is 150,000 barrels of oil that have been knocked off. That has been fairly an issue with that area. We hope we can continue our dialogue and this will return to what it should be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The NNPC boss told stakeholders in Abuja last week that the country\u2019s crude production was 2.2 million barrels per day.<\/p>\n<p>Baru, who spoke through the corporation\u2019s Chief Operating Officer, Gas and Power, Mr. Saidu Mohammed, had announced that the country\u2019s crude production was building up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are doing about 2.2 million bpd today, but of course, the intention is to build on that, sustain production and grow it up to three million barrels per day in the next few years,\u201d the GMD had said.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on the ongoing African Petroleum Producers Organisation extraordinary session in Abuja, Baru stated that Nigeria gave birth to the body.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=13820&amp;ad_type=59&amp;rl=180\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cIn the first instance, Nigeria is the one that gave birth to the African Petroleum Producers Association, which as part of reorganisation, is changing its name to African Petroleum Producers Organisation, and that is giving some form of permanency in the organisation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNigeria continues to be dominant in it. There is a great drive in Nigeria to reposition the whole industry. We are looking beyond the immediate and transforming ourselves. We have had it earlier where we are producing, refining and satisfying ourselves.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>\u201cHowever, there are certain issues surrounding the development of globalisation, whereby government is going out of doing commercial business and that will be the next phase in bringing back the glory. There is a huge market in Africa and we are going to take advantage of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the <a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/niger-delta-map.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-14552\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/niger-delta-map-300x218.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/niger-delta-map-300x218.jpg 300w, http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/niger-delta-map.jpg 474w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, Chief Edwin Clark, has asked the federal government to, as a matter of urgency, constitute a negotiation team to engage in talks with region\u2019s stakeholders before August 1.<br \/>\nThe Ijaw national leader warned that youths of the region were becoming impatient over delay in the talks.<br \/>\nClark disclosed that he has been receiving telephone calls over the seeming stalemate in negotiation, adding that since the November 1, 2016 meeting, PANDEF has not met with the federal government.<br \/>\nHe decried the pace of work at the Maritime University, Okerekoko, Delta State, which Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, had hinted would soon take off.<br \/>\nClark said: \u201cThey said the school will resume this year, July is almost ending, when will the staff be employed, what is the situation?<br \/>\n\u201cSo, between now and August 1, we are asking Mr. President to name a team and we will name our team because the boys are impatient and they have been disturbing me with telephone messages and some of them have even issued notices to disown us.<br \/>\n\u201cWe cannot be in a situation where the Federal Government is not listening to us, our boys will soon lose confidence in us and we cannot carry on with that situation.
