{"id":15038,"date":"2017-07-06T21:26:05","date_gmt":"2017-07-06T21:26:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=15038"},"modified":"2017-07-06T21:26:05","modified_gmt":"2017-07-06T21:26:05","slug":"france-to-ban-sale-of-cars-that-run-on-petrol-or-diesel-by-2040","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=15038","title":{"rendered":"FRANCE TO BAN SALE OF CARS THAT RUN ON PETROL OR DIESEL BY 2040"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>France is set to ban the sale of any car that runs on petrol or diesel by 2040, which brings more uncertainty to the future of oil and oil prices.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nicolas Hulot, France ecology minister, announced the planned ban on fossil fuel vehicles as part of a renewed commitment to the Paris climate deal.<\/p>\n<p><code><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/code><\/p>\n<p><strong>According to BBC<\/strong>, Hulot said France planned to become carbon neutral by 2050.<\/p>\n<p>Hybrid cars make up about 3.5% of the French market, with pure electric vehicles accounting for just 1.2%.<\/p>\n<p>The drop in demand for diesel and petrol driven cars will go a long way in reducing the demand for oil, and in turn drive a decline in global crude oil prices.<\/p>\n<p>Hulot, a veteran environmental campaigner, was appointed by new French President Emmanuel Macron, who in his capacity as president openly criticised US environmental policy, urging Donald Trump to\u00a0<strong>\u201cmake our planet great again\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=13665&amp;ad_type=59&amp;rl=180\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fight against climate change cannot depend on the result of elections in one country of another. When a country signs an international agreement it has to fulfil its commitments,\u201d Macron said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere will be new administrations. I\u2019m pretty sure President Trump hasn\u2019t read the articles of this treaty. There is nothing to renegotiate here\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Trump\u2019s decision to withdraw from the Paris agreement in June was explicitly named as a factor in France\u2019s new vehicle plan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrance has decided to become carbon neutral by 2050 following the US decision,\u201d Hulot said, adding that the government would have to make investments to meet that target.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/OIL-WORKERS.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-15039\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/OIL-WORKERS-300x237.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"237\" srcset=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/OIL-WORKERS-300x237.jpg 300w, http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/OIL-WORKERS.jpg 569w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, car manufacturer Volvo said all of its cars would be at least partly electric from 2019, an announcement referenced by Hulot.<\/p>\n<p>He said he believes French car manufacturers \u2013 including brands such as Peugeot-Citreon and Renault \u2013 would meet the challenge, although he acknowledged it would be difficult.<\/p>\n<p>Norway, which is the leader in the use of electric cars in Europe, wants to move to electric-only vehicles by 2025, as does the Netherlands.
