{"id":14855,"date":"2017-06-21T19:02:10","date_gmt":"2017-06-21T19:02:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=14855"},"modified":"2017-06-21T19:02:10","modified_gmt":"2017-06-21T19:02:10","slug":"nlng-amendment-bill-wike-to-join-forces-with-niger-delta-governors-to-reject-proposal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=14855","title":{"rendered":"NLNG AMENDMENT BILL : WIKE TO JOIN FORCES WITH NIGER DELTA GOVERNORS TO REJECT PROPOSAL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that his administration \u00a0will\u00a0always defend the economy of Rivers State and the South-South geo-political zone, saying that the state government will join forces with other governors \u00a0of\u00a0 the zone \u00a0to\u00a0stop the amendment of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited Bill .<\/p>\n<p>The governor \u00a0also stated that agitations in the South-South have\u00a0remained rife, because \u00a0the authorities \u00a0ignore \u00a0the \u00a0geo-political zone, even though the people \u00a0produce the wealth that sustains the nation.<\/p>\n<p><code><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/code><\/p>\n<p>Speaking \u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_825060899\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Tuesday<\/span><\/span> night\u00a0at the Government House Port Harcourt during a courtesy visit by the management of the NLNG Limited, Governor Wike said that the state government will mobilise the \u00a0state&#8217;s representatives at the National Assembly to ensure that the NLNG \u00a0Limited\u00a0remains in\u00a0good stead to continue with her operations.<\/p>\n<p>He urged the Federal Government not to allow the amendment of the NLNG act to sail through at the National Assembly because of the negative multiplier effect it would on the economy.<\/p>\n<p>He said: &#8220;Anything that will affect the economy of Rivers State, we will always fight it. It is about Rivers State &#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>The governor commended the management of the NLNG for offering to partner with the Federal Government to construct the all-important Bodo -Bonny Bridge.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I thank you for the Bodo-Bonny \u00a0bridge.\u00a0 I hope it is not political.\u00a0 I have always\u00a0advocated for this important bridge. I thank \u00a0the NLNG \u00a0for telling the Federal Government that they are willing to put down money for the construction of the bridge &#8220;, the governor said.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=13535&amp;ad_type=59&amp;rl=180\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He pointed out that the people of the South-South geo-political zone always agitate for better investment of their resources in their respective communities \u00a0because of the neglect they continue \u00a0to suffer.<br \/>\nHe said: &#8220;A big company like NLNG \u00a0Limited generates funds for the country, yet the Bodo-Bonny bridge that will create access to Bonny has not been \u00a0constructed. \u00a0&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The governor regretted that the focus of the Federal Government is on the major ethnic groups, saying that because the Hausas and Igbos are involved \u00a0in conflict, a national meeting \u00a0has been called.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When it is South-South, Nigeria never called a meeting. But because Arewa has given \u00a0a quit notice to Igbos and Igbos have replied, now we are to sit down and talk. But when the problem was here, nobody \u00a0said sit down and let&#8217;s \u00a0talk about these people&#8217;s problems.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Those who are causing this crisis are those who refuse to listen to the yearnings and cries of the people&#8221;, Governor Wike said.<\/p>\n<p>He charged \u00a0the management of the NLNG \u00a0Limited\u00a0to bring the construction of the Ship Building Dockyard to the state \u00a0for the improvement of the economy of Rivers State.<\/p>\n<p>The governor also called on the NLNG \u00a0Limited \u00a0to act on the agreement it entered with the Rivers State Government for the rehabilitation of schools with the \u00a0sum of N4billion.<\/p>\n<p><code><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/code><\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the Managing Director of NLNG Limited, Mr Tony Attah appealed to the Rivers State Government to work with other \u00a0stakeholders \u00a0to ensure that the NLNG Limited\u00a0bill is not amended \u00a0as it will negatively affect the operation of the company in the international stage.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the NLNG Limited is operating 6 trains which generates more than 20 million tones which makes it the fourth in the global ranking of \u00a0LNGs .
