According to them, hundreds of thousands of children could starve \u2013 unless the world acts immediately. Immediately is the word because the situation is quite critical.<\/div>\n<div id=\"m_-3690581585915560632yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1486643207526_39230\"><\/div>\n<p><code><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=12345&amp;ad_type=59&amp;rl=180\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/code><\/p>\n<div id=\"m_-3690581585915560632yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1486643207526_39258\">An international group operating also in Nigeria, Safe the Children, says children are paying the heaviest price for seven years of brutal war, which has intensified in the past few months.<\/div>\n<div id=\"m_-3690581585915560632yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1486643207526_39232\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_-3690581585915560632yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1486643207526_39568\">It\u2019 is predicted that unless the response is stepped up \u201dright now\u201d,\u00a0 400,000 children are at imminent risk of starvation and\u00a0200 children a day will die.<\/div>\n<div id=\"m_-3690581585915560632yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1486643207526_39235\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_-3690581585915560632yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1486643207526_39236\">The group\u2019s CEO Kevin Watkins, who recently visited the flashpoint said: \u201dSome of the mothers who I spoke to had walked for two weeks to get their children treated at Save the Children\u2019s clinic.<\/div>\n<div id=\"m_-3690581585915560632yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1486643207526_39237\" dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_-3690581585915560632yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1486643207526_39254\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201dThere\u2019s still an opportunity to prevent a full blown famine \u2013 but that window is closing fast. Failure to act would be indefensible and unforgivable.\u201d<\/div>\n<div id=\"m_-3690581585915560632yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1486643207526_39080\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_-3690581585915560632yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1486643207526_39374\" dir=\"ltr\">Safe the Children is providing severely malnourished children with expert treatment at our specialist health centres. They are equally helping children get clean water and improving sanitation by building latrines and conducting hygiene awareness sessions, especially for families forced from their homes.<\/div>\n<div id=\"m_-3690581585915560632yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1486643207526_39088\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_-3690581585915560632yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1486643207526_39287\">Forty-seven years after the civil war (1967\u20131970), it appears Nigeria has been hit by the biggest humanitarian crisis in Africa, with the UN warning that some 100,000 people, mostly children, could die of starvation in the north-east unless they receive urgent aid.<\/div>\n<div id=\"m_-3690581585915560632yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1486643207526_39089\" dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"m_-3690581585915560632yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1486643207526_39288\" dir=\"ltr\">The extent of the crisis has become clearer as the army regains territory from militant Islamist group Boko Haram, which launched an insurgency in 2009 to establish Islamic rule in the region.
