So, rather than the said fact-finding visit to calm frayed nerves and douse rising tensions in the region, it has created more harm. And this is simply because of the way and manner the said visit was done by the Vice President, which has left behind a lot of controversies and disagreements as well.<\/p>\n<p><code><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=12055&amp;ad_type=59&amp;rl=180\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/code><\/p>\n<p>If the Presidency\u2019s intention and mission through the Vice President\u2019s visit was to seek for ways to restore lasting peace in the Niger Delta region, then they have totally missed it with the way the said visit was conducted in Delta State. First, Vice President Osibanjo and his entourage landed at the Osubi Airstrip near Warri in Okpe Kingdom of Delta Central. But he did not consider it necessary to visit the Orodje of Okpe, nor did he visit the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom despite passing through Uvwie. The Vice President also did not consider it necessary to visit Oleh, or Ughelli and their respective Monarchs\/Kings during the said visit. He just concentrated on his visit to the Gbaramatu Kingdom where he met with the Pere (King) of Gbaramatu, HRM Oboro Gbaraun II, Aketekpe, Agadagba and his Council of Chiefs. Whereas, there are equally other Ijaw Kings\/Monarchs in Delta State the Vice President did not consider to visit as well.<br \/>\nAgreed that it was a one-day working visit to Delta State, and as such, many might say it is not possible for the Vice President and his entourage to see all the various Kings\/Monarchs of Oil and Gas producing Communities in Delta State, but one would have expected them to have all these Kings\/Monarchs gathered in a \u2018neutral location\u2019 like the Delta State Government House Annex in Warri, to meet with the Vice President. Also, considering the importance of such a visit, and what it means to the Presidency, nothing stops them from having more than a One-day visit to create enough time for the Vice President to meet with all relevant stakeholders in their various Palaces. The truth is that the said visit was \u2018hasty\u2019 and fruitless. If the Federal Government\u2019s intention with the said visit was part of steps to find a lasting solution to the Niger Delta crisis, then One-Day cannot be enough for them to achieve anything meaningful. If the Federal Government genuinely wants to address the Niger Delta situation, then they would have taken at least Two To Three Days for only Delta State to visit all relevant stakeholders and address issues. But with the way they \u2018hastily\u2019 came and left Delta State, it shows that the Federal Government does not know what they are doing.<br \/>\nAnother reported confusion and incident, created by Prof. Osibajo visit to Delta State was when Kings\/Monarchs, who waited for several hours for his arrival at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Conference Hall, Effurun, got tired and angrily stormed out of the venue. The appearance of the Vice President, who made an emergency landing at about 5p.m. with his Chief host, the Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, moments after they staged a walk out, did not persuade some of the Kings\/Monarchs from returning, but security operatives locked the entrance, stopping their drivers from leaving the premises. Some only reluctantly returned in the circumstance.<br \/>\nWe can see that indeed, the Vice President\u2019s visit only created more disunity, confusion and tension in the land. Bearing in mind that we have many ethnic groups in Delta State that are part of the Oil and Gas producing strongholds, which includes those in the Ndokwa axis, Urhobo Land, Ijaws Land, Itsekiri axis, Isoko axis, etc. one would have expected the Vice President to conduct his fact-finding visit more wisely. As the Vice President, Prof. Osibajo ought to have known all of this. And he should have been advised appropriately by those around him. There was no justification whatsoever with the way the Vice President and his entourage went about their \u2018selective visit\u2019 in Delta State.<br \/>\nWe are also not the only ones who are thinking in this light. For instance, the former Minister of State, Education, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, just yeaterday, dismissed the visit as \u2018fruitless\u2019, saying that the Vice President and the organizers of the visit took the Urhobo nation for granted. In his word: \u201cYou don\u2019t take the Urhobo for granted and we cannot accept a situation where our traditional rulers are treated like second class citizens in our own land,\u201d saying it was against the grain of reason for the Vice-President to visit other ethnic strongholds without stopping over at Ughelli, the political headquarters of the Urhobo nation.\u201d<br \/>\nThe bottom line is that what the Niger Delta people need is just the implementations of the catalogues of demands of the host communities\u2019 locals and favorable policies for the region, and not these fact-finding visits. All the demands of the region are with the Federal Government and relevant Government authorities. They should just dust the files and TAKE ACTION. The Government at all levels should simply develop the Niger Delta region and stop deceiving the helpless masses.
