{"id":12140,"date":"2016-10-28T19:54:28","date_gmt":"2016-10-28T19:54:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=12140"},"modified":"2016-10-28T19:54:28","modified_gmt":"2016-10-28T19:54:28","slug":"apc-nwc-chief-oyegun-will-have-to-do-more-to-guarantee-lasting-peace-unity-and-victory-in-2019-by-barrister-fred-oghenesivbe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=12140","title":{"rendered":"APC NWC, CHIEF OYEGUN WILL HAVE TO DO MORE TO GUARANTEE LASTING PEACE, UNITY AND VICTORY IN 2019.  by: Barrister Fred Oghenesivbe."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><code><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/code><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Delta-APC.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-12141\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Delta-APC-300x181.jpg\" alt=\"delta-apc\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" srcset=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Delta-APC-300x181.jpg 300w, http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Delta-APC-768x462.jpg 768w, http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Delta-APC.jpg 935w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I must say from the outset that the Wenesday October 26 meeting where Party National Chairman, Chief Odigie OYEGUN constituted the Leaders Council for Delta State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is a welcome development and a bold step towards moving the party forward.<\/p>\n<p>However, my findings revealed that the Senator Francis Spanner Okpozo group, Chief Adolor Okotie-Eboh and Chief Great Ogboru&#8217;s Light of Labour caucus are not happy with some of the decisions reached at the meeting held at the palatial home of Chief OYEGUN in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=11343&amp;ad_type=59&amp;rl=180\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>According to reliable sources, Chief Great Ogboru disclosed that prior to joining the APC, there was a gentleman agreement between his group and some Leaders of Delta APC which is to the effect that there shall be a mini-congress where the party structure would be reconstituted to reasonably reflect the political interest of major new entrants so as to promote high sense of belonging in the scheme of things.<\/p>\n<p>At the meeting, the source added, Ogboru pointed out that to brush aside that gentleman agreement will amount to fresh negotiation because the Light of Labour Group may not be interested in hazy arrangements which may in the near future frustrate the group&#8217;s political interest.<\/p>\n<p>At the end, Ogboru reluctantly accepted to serve in the newly constituted Leaders Council to be co-chaired by Olorogun Otega Emerhor and Dr. Ibe Kachukwu. I am still making frantic efforts to reach major stakeholders of the Light of Labour caucus of Delta APC for clarification.<\/p>\n<p>The second issue is that of Chief Adolor Okotie-Eboh, Dr Ideh, Barrister Timi Harriman. It is the thinking of a school of thought that these class of politicians ought to be well integrated into the party structure by either accommodating them in the LEADERS COUNCIL or given defined roles in their senatorial districts considering their past track records in partisan politics and previous political offices held, and that the way things are they might not be well disposed to put their best towards the party victory in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The NWC is still reluctant to deal with Chief Adolor for challenging the outcome of the State Congress which produced the Jones Ode Erue State Executive Committee. This development is seen as partial resolution of the party crisis in Delta State because it tend to leave some issues unresolved.<\/p>\n<p>Another group is of the opinion that the issues ought to have been dealt with once and for all so that the party can make reasonable progress. Chief Adolor and others are yet to openly deny their acceptance of the decisions reached at the last meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The third issue is that of Senator Francis Spanner Okpozo&#8217;s group. Members of the group were absent from the OYEGUN Abuja meeting of last Wednesday for obvious reason. They constituted an illegal caretaker committee for which the NWC demanded a written apology. Yes, apology is okay but political observers strongly believe that they ought to be invited to the meeting, made to apologize instantly in writing and then go ahead to deal with all the issues, even if it requires the meeting to last for two days or more; so that at the end of it all, a communique would have been issued to end the lingering crisis.<\/p>\n<p>As it is today and from indications and innuendos of supporters of the aggrieved parties particularly the Okpozo, Adolor, Ideh, Harriman, Ogboru and others, it can not be safely asserted that a final settlement has been reached and therefore total peace may not have returned to Delta APC.<\/p>\n<p>MY TAKE:<\/p>\n<p>Fresh facts from series of telephone conversations is to the effect that some stakeholders who attended last Wednesday&#8217;s meeting strongly believe that it was a private meeting held in Oyegun&#8217;s house as a preamble to the main and enlarged stakeholders meeting and that the meeting do not necessarily reflect the official position of NWC because it was not properly constituted.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the Okpozo group are saying that Chief Oyegun has to a large extent failed to provide credible leadership especially his alleged biased handling of the political crisis in Delta State. Their take is that NWC should preside over an enlarged meeting of the various factions and at the end reconcile all parties and issue official communique stating term of settlement and made public via the mass media.<\/p>\n<p>I am also of the opinion that the issue requires an enlarged meeting (may last two or three days) to look into all grey areas and harmonise the political interests of various groups; and at the end a joint press conference must be held with leaders of the various factions present to announce the total resolution of the crisis. This to me, is the most ideal approach that will be beneficial and fair to all concerned.<\/p>\n<p>The reconciliation process must not be rigid so that NWC can always adjust to finally resolve the crisis sooner than later.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, the Leaders Council in conjunction with the State Caucus should extend invitation to the various groups for another round of discussion where some of the vexed issues can be discussed and solutions provided so that all parties including the Light of Labour will gladly sign a position document that NWC can endorse as full and final settlement of the crisis.<\/p>\n<p>The larger picture should be 2019 election victory which can only be achieved if stakeholders are united to achieve that Herculean task.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Odigie OYEGUN and NWC should do more to ensure that reconciliation process is total and all parties carried along to avoid insinuations that the party leadership is sympathetic to a particular group to the disadvantage of others.<\/p>\n<p>We are almost there.
