{"id":12131,"date":"2016-10-28T18:12:11","date_gmt":"2016-10-28T18:12:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=12131"},"modified":"2016-10-28T18:12:11","modified_gmt":"2016-10-28T18:12:11","slug":"corruption-in-nnpc-is-overblown-kachikwu-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=12131","title":{"rendered":"Corruption in NNPC is overblown, Kachikwu says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><code><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/code><\/p>\n<p>The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, said corruption in the oil and gas industry was overblown.<\/p>\n<p>Kachikwu said this in Abuja on Thursday at a news briefing shortly after the launch of the new roadmap tagged \u201cThe 7 Big Wins\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think sometimes the corruption indices in Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) are overblown, because sometimes people do not understand the technicalities of what is going on and the short answer is corruption.<br \/>\n\u201cI do agree that there were all kinds of sleaze stories in the past, but if you look at the last one year and in the last 13 months, those have dramatically disappeared.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=11343&amp;ad_type=59&amp;rl=180\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe TSA definitely helped, being able to suck in all our funds in one pond, being able to look at long term focus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fact that we have saved over a billion dollars through the Direct Sale Direct Purchase programme, it is something. Otherwise, it would have gone into private pockets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are good people in the NNPC,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>Kachikwu said that in spite of doom stories that abound in the country, the petroleum industry was one sector that had said \u201cthere is hope, we can find solutions; we can solve problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only thing that we must hold high is commitment and collegiality in trying to fix things. I believe if the petroleum ministry works, the rest of the country will work,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>On the issue of refineries, he said that the fact that they were working today was because there were local engineers who were able to resuscitate them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe feeling of the Federal Executive Council and the President is that we should first get the refineries to be efficient before we talk about privatization, otherwise, we will be selling scraps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn their present state, nobody is going to offer you serious money.
