{"id":11917,"date":"2016-10-14T19:31:47","date_gmt":"2016-10-14T19:31:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=11917"},"modified":"2016-10-14T19:31:47","modified_gmt":"2016-10-14T19:31:47","slug":"fg-working-on-creative-innovative-gas-policy-kachikwu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=11917","title":{"rendered":"FG Working On Creative, Innovative Gas Policy \u2013 Kachikwu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><code><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/code><\/p>\n<p>The \u00a0Federal Government says it \u00a0is developing a creative and innovative gas policy as well as regulatory frameworks to meet the aspirations of the Nigerian people \u00a0and prospective investors.<\/p>\n<p>The Minster of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, said this at the Powering Africa Conference in Abuja on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Kachikwu, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Policy and Fiscal Matters, Dr Timothy Okon, said that the move became imperative because of the large gas reserves in the country.<a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/gas-flaring.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-11918\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/gas-flaring-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"gas-flaring\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/gas-flaring-300x169.jpg 300w, http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/gas-flaring.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-1\"><\/div>\n<p>He said because of the abundance of gas reserves in the country, Nigeria should be a gas-based economy and not one hinged on oil.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said that Nigeria \u00a0had been exposed\u00a0 to\u00a0 a \u00a0favourable \u00a0international \u00a0gas environment marked by high prices, strong global demand and large\u00a0 flows of investment .<\/p>\n<p>He said there\u00a0 were opportunities for investments in emerging markets for power and gas- based industrialisation such as in petrochemicals, methanol and fertiliser.<\/p>\n<p>Kachikwu said that government had over the years developed various initiatives to encourage investment in the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors of the gas value chain.<\/p>\n<p>He said that government\u2019s vision was to extend gas penetration in the domestic market to facilitate the growth of electric power and the industrial sector.<\/p>\n<p>Other reasons, he said, were\u00a0 to ensure the presence of \u00a0Nigerian gas in the international market as well as to end gas flaring and address environmental challenges.(NAN)<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The \u00a0Federal Government says it \u00a0is developing a creative and innovative gas policy as well as regulatory frameworks to meet the aspirations of the Nigerian people \u00a0and prospective investors.
