{"id":11821,"date":"2016-10-07T23:02:06","date_gmt":"2016-10-07T23:02:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=11821"},"modified":"2016-10-07T23:02:06","modified_gmt":"2016-10-07T23:02:06","slug":"ondo-state-tinubus-allegation-is-reckless-and-baseless-apc-national-chairman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=11821","title":{"rendered":"Ondo State: Tinubu&#8217;s allegation is &#8220;reckless and baseless&#8221; &#8211; APC National Chairman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><code><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/code><\/p>\n<p><code><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=11005&amp;ad_type=59&amp;rl=180\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/code><\/p>\n<p>National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, John Oyegun, has finally articulated a formal response to accusations of corruption leveled against him by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the party, on the controversial governorship primary election in Ondo State.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement released on Friday, Oyegun stated that he wished to clear the misinformation and falsehood that have characterized the outcome of the primary election, as well as set the records straight.<\/p>\n<p>The result of that election had thrown the APC into a serious leadership crisis, notably between Oyegun and former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, with the latter calling for the former\u2019s resignation.<\/p>\n<p>The APC national chairman said Tinubu\u2019s claim that he (Oyegun) overruled the NWC\u2019s vote of \u201csix against five\u201d in favour of cancelling the primary election results and conducting another primary, was false, as no such vote was held during the NWC meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was absolutely no meeting which I chaired that voted in the manner alleged. Clearly, the report on which the media office of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu acted was a figment of someone\u2019s wild imagination,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Oyegun explained that he had only ruled to uphold an earlier decision of the NWC not to cancel the Ondo primaries.<\/p>\n<p>He also denied Tinubu\u2019s allegation that \u201cover 150 valid delegates (in Ondo State) were excised to make room for an equal number of impostors\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ondo State approved delegates list was compiled in strict compliance with the Party\u2019s constitution. Only qualified delegates were included in the list,\u201d he maintained, adding that even the appeal committee could not prove otherwise.<\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>On the allegation that he had used a \u201cprayer interlude\u201d to \u201csecretly excuse\u201d himself from the NWC meeting in order to submit Akeredolu\u2019s name to INEC, Oyegun said that the claim was \u201chigh fiction and an insult to the intelligence and sensibility of the respected NWC members present at the meeting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not and have never engaged in prayer interludes\/sessions outside the usual opening and closing prayers,\u201d he clarified.<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu in his letter to Oyegun had also implied that the national chairman must have been bribed when he stated that \u201cOyegun has dealt a heavy blow to the very party he professes to lead. It is an awful parent who suffocates his own child for the sake of a few naira.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To this Oyegun replied: \u201cThis <a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/APC.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11335\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/APC.jpg\" alt=\"APC\" width=\"237\" height=\"213\" \/><\/a> corruption allegation levelled against me is unfortunate and an insult to my person and my hard-earned reputation which I have strongly maintained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody has the kind of money that can buy my conscience or make me do injury to an innocent man.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn all the primaries conducted under my watch as National Chairman, I have strived to ensure a free, fair, transparent and credible process. The 2016 Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election was not an exception.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The APC chairman further explained that \u201cThe NWC in its four-point resolution rejected the Appeal Committee\u2019s recommendation (to cancel the Ondo Primary polls) on the grounds that the report was fundamentally and fatally flawed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He wondered why the Appeal Committee, after admitting in its report that \u2018there may have been substantial compliance in the conduct of the exercise\u2019, still proceeded to recommend the nullification of the Primary election.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Oyegun said the Appeal committee, during its hearings, did not invite the party\u2019s National Secretary to authenticate the delegate list used in the primary election, neither did it invite the chairman or members of the Primary election committee, which was headed by Governor Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State.<\/p>\n<p>Oyegun also said that the NWC could not have called for a fresh primary as time could not have permitted that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), all governorship primaries and issues related ended on September 19, 2016,\u201d he pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>He urged leaders of the party to \u201cexplore internal dispute resolution mechanisms in addressing their perceived grievances\u201d before going to the media, adding that the party\u2019s leadership was committed to the task of winning the Ondo state governorship election so as \u201cto save the people of the state from the misrule of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><code><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/code><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=11005&amp;ad_type=59&amp;rl=180\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, John Oyegun, has finally articulated a formal response to accusations of corruption leveled against him by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the party, on the controversial governorship primary election in Ondo State.
