{"id":11591,"date":"2016-09-22T11:43:16","date_gmt":"2016-09-22T11:43:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=11591"},"modified":"2016-09-22T11:43:16","modified_gmt":"2016-09-22T11:43:16","slug":"libyans-regret-the-ouster-and-killing-of-colonel-muammar-gaddafi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=11591","title":{"rendered":"Libyans regret the ouster and killing of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<div class=\"article__summary summary \">Libyans who mounted a revolution against Colonel Muammar Gaddafi now miss the stability provided by the old order because of the savage violence into which the country has descended, it is reported.<\/div>\n<div class=\"article__text text \">\n<p>The testimony has emerged in a number of on-the-ground interviews carried out by the Daily Mail\u00a0and comes only days after a Commons Defence Committee report placed blame for the country\u2019s collapse and the emergence of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS\/ISIL) firmly on the shoulders of David Cameron.<\/p>\n<p><code><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=10723&amp;ad_type=59&amp;rl=180\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/code><\/p>\n<p>The former PM, who stepped down as an MP hours before the report was published, faces calls from fellow Tories to appear before the committee to account for the \u201c<em>ill-conceived<\/em>\u201d 2011 war, which even US President Barack Obama is alleged to have privately written off as Cameron\u2019s personal \u201c<em>sh*t-show.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Five years on from the conflict, Libyans are lamenting the violence, blackouts, shortages, refugee crisis and general descent into chaos of the formerly stable North African state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI<em> joined the revolution in the first days and fought against Gaddafi,<\/em>\u201d a former anti-regime fighter named Mohammed told the Mail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Before 2011 I hated Gaddafi more than anyone. But now, life is much, much harder, and I have become his biggest fan,<\/em>\u201d the 31-year-old said.<a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/gaddafi.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-11592\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/gaddafi-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"gaddafi\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/gaddafi-300x168.jpg 300w, http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/gaddafi.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><i><b><\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<div class=\"eliadunit\"><\/div>\n<p>An oil worker named Haroun said getting rid of Gaddafi \u201c<em>was clearly a mistake because we weren\u2019t ready for democracy and we needed support from the international community, which just wasn\u2019t there.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Political activist Fadiel told the paper that although \u201c<em>it should be better than Gaddafi\u2019s time now,<\/em>\u201d all that remained is \u201c<em>chaos and everyone fighting each other, it\u2019s just a mess.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Entrepreneur Nuri, from Tripoli, said: \u201c<em>It\u2019s not so much about being pro-Gaddafi because he was a crazy leader who was actually quite embarrassing internationally. It\u2019s just that people\u2019s lives are so difficult now compared to under Gaddafi.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Medical student Salem, 26, also from Tripoli, said hopes had been quickly crushed in the wake of the US-led war in which the UK played a major part.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Far more people have been killed since 2011 than during the revolution or under 42 years of Gaddafi\u2019s rule combined. We never had these problems under Gaddafi.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cT<em>here was always money and electricity and, although people did not have large salaries, everything was cheap, so life was simple,<\/em>\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Cameron did not give evidence in the committee report and has so far not responded to calls to give testimony on what the investigation has branded an \u201c<em>ill-conceived<\/em>\u201d operation.
