{"id":11344,"date":"2016-09-05T21:08:22","date_gmt":"2016-09-05T21:08:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=11344"},"modified":"2016-09-05T21:08:22","modified_gmt":"2016-09-05T21:08:22","slug":"breakdown-of-salaries-and-allowances-of-nigeria-legislators","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=11344","title":{"rendered":"Breakdown of Salaries And Allowances of Nigeria Legislators"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><code><script src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\" async=\"\"><\/script><br \/>\n <!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n <ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\/\/ <![CDATA[\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><\/code><\/p>\n<p><code><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=10338&amp;ad_type=59&amp;rl=180\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/code><\/p>\n<p>At a time Nigerians are groaning under the yoke of recession, members of the National Assembly (NASS) comprising the Senators and Members of House of Representatives have received a total sum of N6.78 billion as their official salaries and allowances in one year, investigation by Economic Confidential has revealed.<\/p>\n<p>The report obtained by Economic intelligence magazine showed the \u2018legitimate\u2019 remuneration of the federal legislators in compliance to the statutory approval of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).<\/p>\n<p>The remuneration packages include: annual salaries, accommodation, vehicle maintenance and fuel, Personal Assistants, House maintenance, domestic staff, entertainment and utilities allowances. Others allowances are; Constituency allowance, Annual Leave, Hardship allowance, wardrobe, newspapers and responsibility allowances.<\/p>\n<p>A careful scrutiny of the report shows that:<\/p>\n<p>Annual Salary of a Senator &#8211; <b>N2.02m<\/b><br \/>\nAnnual Salary of a Member, House of Reps &#8211; <b>N1.98m<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Basic Salaries of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Senate President &#8211; N2.48m<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Speaker of House of Rep<\/b> &#8211; <b>N2.47m<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Deputy Senate President has <b>N2.30m as annual basic salary <\/b>while his counterpart, Deputy Speaker earns <b>N2.28m<\/b> <b>annually.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Allowances: <\/b><br \/>\nIn addition to the annual basic salary, each member of the National Assembly receives:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>200 percent of the annual salary for accommodation<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>75 percent for vehicle maintenance<\/b>,<\/li>\n<li><b>25 percent for Personal Assistants<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>5 percent for house maintenance<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>75 percent for domestic staff<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>30 percent for both entertainment and utilities<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>25 percent for wardrobe<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>15 percent for newspapers and responsibility allowance of between 10, 7, and 5 percent respectively as the case may be on the position of the legislator.<\/b><\/li>\n<li>While each senator receives a whopping <b>250 percent for constituency allowance, member of House of Representative gets 100% for the same annually.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\" async=\"\"><\/script><br \/>\n <!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n <ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\/\/ <![CDATA[\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The senate numbering 109 senators gulped the sum of <b>N1.85billion<\/b> in the last one year, while the 360 members of the House of Representatives got <b>N4.93 billion.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>According to estimates from the report, there are Non-Regular allowances federal legislators are entitled to.
