300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>A Calabar High court presided over by Justice Efiom Eyol Ita has granted an exparte motion to stop the conduct of elections into the University of Calabar Multipurpose Cooperative Society\u00a0 Limited.<\/p>\n<p>The motion\u00a0 follows a suit\u00a0 instituted by Messrs Emangha One Bassey\u00a0 and Obrikwu Sunny Ogar with suit No. HC\/370\/2016 against Pastor Patrick\u00a0 Ibiang, Elder Okon Isuambuk and thirteen others seeking for\u00a0 a declaration that\u00a0 the Management\u00a0 Committee of the\u00a0 University of Calabar Cooperative Society has over stayed\u00a0 its tenure in office\u00a0 and as such \u201call decisions taken by the management committee after the expiration of its tenure which is May 27th, 2016 are unlawful, null and void\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\" async=\"\"><\/script><br \/>\n <!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n <ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\/\/ <![CDATA[\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><\/p>\n<p>They averred in &#8220;the Annual General Meeting , AGM, of the society held on the 28th of July, 2016\u00a0 and the selection of\u00a0 Electoral Committee to conduct the election by the management Committee whose tenure had elapsed on the 27th of May 2016 without recourse to amend the bye laws of the Co-operative Society\u00a0 was unlawful, illegal,\u00a0 null and void\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Granting the expartre order, Justice Ita restrained the defendants and the Electoral Committee set up by the Management Committee of the Cooperative Society \u201cfrom conducting elections into the Management Committee of the University of Calabar Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society\u00a0 Limited\u00a0 pending the determination of the motion filed on 18th August, 2016\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In a telephone chat Pastor Patrick Ibiang, president\u00a0 of the Cooperative Society said that\u00a0 \u201cthere\u00a0 is no injunction stopping the conduct of my election <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1922383030\"><span class=\"aQJ\">tomorrow<\/span><\/span> as \u201cI or the Electoral Committee have not been served with\u00a0 any injunction notice\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile one of the contestant for the office of president was alleged to have been kidnapped as at the time of filing this story.<\/p>\n<p>He is Elder Okon Isumabuk
