Ojo, who was represented by the Bayelsa Project Officer, Alagoa Morris, stated that the pressure for clean-up is high and with unemployment among youths.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the environment could be a means of creating green jobs that would have multiplier effects on the environment and livelihood by involving the youths in the clean-up process. \u201cWhile the cost of clean-up is high, it is the preventive measures that are more relevant to forestall future occurrences. we,\u00a0 therefore, call on the government to mobilise and train the youths to be involved in the oil spill clean-up process through the use of bio-remediation<br \/>\ntechniques,\u201d he said.<a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Oil-pollution.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8820\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8820\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Oil-pollution-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Oil pollution\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Oil-pollution-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Oil-pollution-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Oil-pollution-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Oil-pollution.jpg 1100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, In a communiqu\u00e9 issued after the workshop, community leaders identified equipment failure, corrosion and negligence on the part of multinational oil companies and pipeline vandalism as the main causes of oil spillage in the Niger Delta region.<\/p>\n<p>Lamenting that environmental degradation and displacement of means of livelihood have been the bane of oil activities in the region.
