{"id":10091,"date":"2016-07-15T20:52:55","date_gmt":"2016-07-15T20:52:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=10091"},"modified":"2016-07-15T20:52:55","modified_gmt":"2016-07-15T20:52:55","slug":"ghost-workers-fg-saves-n4-2bn-monthly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=10091","title":{"rendered":"Ghost workers: FG saves N4.2bn monthly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><code><script src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\" async=\"\"><\/script><br \/>\n <!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n <ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\/\/ <![CDATA[\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><\/code><\/p>\n<p><code><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=9358&amp;ad_type=59&amp;rl=180\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/code><\/p>\n<p>The Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit has found discrepancies in the payroll of the Federal Government\u2019s Ministries, Agencies and Departments to the tune of N5.7 billion monthly.<\/p>\n<p>The Head of the Continuous Audit Team, Mr Mohammed Dikwa, made this known in an interview with newsmen on Friday in Kano on the sideline of the two-day National Revenue Retreat, organised by the Ministry of Finance.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the amount was the true state of their findings as at June 30, 2016, and as a result the federal government had been saved from paying that amount monthly.<\/p>\n<p>The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that President Buhari had set up the Continuous Audit Team to look into the finance of Federal Government\u2019s Ministries, Departments and Agencies.<\/p>\n<p>This is meant to address issue of ghost workers, over payment of allowances, fraud and embezzlement in MDAs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Continuous Audit Team plans to conduct regular checks on the control and risk assessment of MDAs. We look at the records that are being kept to ensure transparency and accountability of the financial transactions carried over time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn terms of ghost workers, we have found about 43,000 ghost workers so far and as at May 30, we had N4.2 billion that is saved on a monthly basis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut as at June, 30, we were able to make more recoveries of N2.2 billion which has led to an additional savings of N6.4 billion monthly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Dikwa said that more savings would be made when the team succeeds in capturing all the Federal Govenment\u2019s MDA into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe IPPIS platform is only having 20 per cent of the MDAs of the Federal Government on board. This means that about 80 per cent of MDAs are still outside the IPPIS platform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd it is important that they are all captured because our system of approach in conducting the continuous audit is automated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe get those on the IPPIS platform and match them with their Bank Verification Numbers and see who is collecting two salaries at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also check if there is any money being paid into individual accounts that is way above what he or she should be getting as allowances and salaries,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Dikwa said the team had a long way to go as it had only covered 20 per cent of its workload.<\/p>\n<p>He said that all suspected cases of ghost workers and other acts were being forwarded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to ensure recoveries.<\/p>\n<p>Dikwa said also that the team had succeeded in reducing the personnel cost of the federal government from N150 billion monthly in January, to N142 billion per month as at June 2016.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis drastic reduction in personnel cost will continue as the Continuous Audit Team maintains its continuous visitations to all MDAs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is expected that by Dec 31, over N100 billion will be reduced from the budgeted personnel cost of the 2016 year.<\/p>\n<p>NAN<a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Kemi-Adeosun.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8706\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8706\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Kemi-Adeosun-300x173.jpg\" alt=\"Kemi-Adeosun\" width=\"300\" height=\"173\" srcset=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Kemi-Adeosun-300x173.jpg 300w, http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Kemi-Adeosun.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><script src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\" async=\"\"><\/script><br \/>\n <!-- www.deltanewsroom.com --><br \/>\n <ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block;\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-2163942495525027\" data-ad-slot=\"1411897411\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\/\/ <![CDATA[\n(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit has found discrepancies in the payroll of the Federal Government\u2019s Ministries, Agencies and Departments to the tune of N5.7 billion monthly.
